India Extends Detention of Foreign Nationals Over Insurgent Training
The men, taken into custody by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA), face charges of engaging in subversive activities in the country’s northeast, a region bordering Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan, China, and Bangladesh.
On Monday, a Delhi court upheld their detention after the NIA stated that the individuals had entered Mizoram without the required special permit.
The accused are alleged to have trained and armed insurgent groups linked to longstanding rebel movements in India’s northeast. Investigations also reportedly uncovered evidence showing that the men facilitated deliveries of multiple drone consignments from Europe to people and groups in Mizoram.
